Okay so, before you even start reading this you’re probably thinking: “Why should I dress up every day if I’m not going anywhere formal?” or “What’s the point of taking an extra 20 minutes out of my morning just to plan a more elaborate outfit?”
Well, you know what? There are soooo many reasons why you should dress well every day, no matter what you’re doing or where you’re going! And yes, it is much easier to just throw on you’re sweater and jogging pants every day, but I am here to tell you the benefits of taking a few extra minutes to dress up: it deffinetly outweighs the positives of the former, so you should probably keep reading:)
So, I’m not sure if you have noticed, but I can’t help but asking myself: “Since when did it become an unusual thing to put effort into what you wear and have fun with fashion? Since when is anyone not wearing sweatpants and a hoodie breaking unwritten social rules? Why should “dressing up” be reserved for special occasions only, and wearing something fancy makes people think you’re out of you’re mind!?”
There are so many benefits of dressing up: like having proven to have the ability to boost your mood and overall confidence. Let’s say you leave the house in a wrinkled top, worn out jeans and bedhead hair, to school or even work!? It not only has you feeling ‘blah’ all day, but sets a poor appearance for yourself. As much as we like to avoid it, I’m sorry to inform you that as much as you might say you don’t care: a first impression is truly based off of your appearance. When you look the part people will believe you can perform better. So why not dress to impress?
Now don’t go spending a fortune on expensive designer clothes either! (Not what I’m saying at all, promise!) However, all I’m saying is that if you are on a budget dressing up doesn’t require you to have a closet full of expensive clothes. Just wear something that makes you feel confident and put together!
So no matter what you have planned for the day, start dressing up! You’ll thank me later:) Still need some reasons for why you should? Okay:) Here’s 15 reasons why you should dress up every day:
1) Because It Improves You’re Mood and Personality
Looking confident and put together is actually proven to improve your overall mood and personality! Just another excuse to dress you’re best:) It’s amazing how wearing something that is flattering and on the fancy side can improve how you’re feeling that day!
2) Because You’ll Make A Good Impression
Making a good impression is always important, and it’s one of the best reasons why to dress well too. When you look good, people notice. If you meet someone in sweatpants, they will just assume you were too lazy to get dressed up. (At least that’s what I’ll think!) But if you meet someone in a cute outfit that expresses who you are, they are sure to notice the effort you put into making yourself presentable. Totes worth it!
3) Because Of The Cost Per Wear Rule
Hey, remember that amazing, expensive party dress you only wore once? It must have cost you a fortune! Don’t let that go to waste, and don’t be afraid to wear you’re more expensive pieces, waiting tucked behind pure closet until the next formal occasion comes up. Cost per wear people! Its important to keep in mind:)
4) Because Life Is Too Short To Be Wearing Boring Clothes
Life’s too short to blend in. Don’t settle for average. Dress up, be confident and comfortable and make the most out of you’re outfits!
5) Because Dressing Up Improves You’re Confidence:)
Because nothing feels better than walking down the street in an outfit that makes you feel awesome and confident in yourself. Showing up to class or work feeling confident and motivated is a key step to having a successful day. These traits begin with ourselves; looking in the mirror before walking out of the door can greatly boost our confidence. Feeling confident and comfortable at the beginning of the day will increase your productivity and self-assurance:) In turn for putting in the extra time of dressing up, you’re inner-confidence will radiate throughout as you put time and a little extra effort into your image. People will certainly notice the positive change:)
6) Because It’s As Great Form of Self Expression!
Sometimes you may be a little bit shy and you don’t really know how to express yourself. One of best ways to showcase you’re creativity and individuality is through what you wear! It can reflect your mood, your style, and you’re personality. So why limit yourself to wearing something boring and bland when you can show everyone who you really are and wear something that expresses you? 🙂
7) Because You’re Only Young Once
You’re only young once, so make sure to take advantage of how you look in the present, and the styles that suit you now! Why wait? Being able to dress up every day and still being able to dress you’re age is a great feeling:)
8) Because It Kind Of….Annoys People? :p
Because it obviously annoys some people when you dress up and it’s actually kind of fun to see their reactions! (like the guy who asks why you’re so dressed up for apparently no reason…) Anyways, the fact that it annoys them so much is all the more reason to keep doing it! Whether they’re jealous of you’re outfits to be dressed up all the time, or they are just purely confused with you…it sure to keep you looking interesting!
9) Because Dressing Up Is A Great Converstation Starter
Cute clothes and accessories are a great conversation starter:) Wear something that makes a statement: and people will ask you where you got it. It’s deffinetly a lot easier to start a conversation with unique clothing rather than a quite..awkward conversation..:p.
10) Because You Get Compliments:)
Going along with a confidence boost, nothing gives you that satisfactory feeling like being complimented on your outfit, right? It’s a great feeling of assurence that you’re shift to dressing up and putting in that extra time to plan you’re outfit was worth the while:) And I mean, you probably won’t get any compliments on your outfit if you are wearing sweatpants…
11) Because Dressing Up Actually Keeps You Productive!
It is soooo easy to fall asleep or feel lazy when lounging around in a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt. (Everyone does it, and it’s totally ok…once in a while)
But when you are dressed up, you will be more motivated to get work done! Dressing up is actually proven to make you feel like you won’t be able to help but be productive, so why not right?
12) Because You Might Be Snapped By the Sartorialist!
…or any other popular fashion blogs and websites! I always wanted this to happen, and if you are anything like me, then you must know: it will only come true if you dress up every day!
13) Because You’ll Stand Out!
And also because if you go to a school like me where there’s an unofficial uniform consisting of North Face and UGGs, on top of an actual boring school uniform of a white polo and khakis..you’re going to want to stand out! When you express yourself and dress up, it really does make you stand against everyone who doesn’t put in the effort: A very positive difference:)
14) Because It’s Fun!
Playing dress up dosent stop when you’re out of kindergarten! It actually happens more often later when to have a whole wardrobe to choose from…dressing up is just one of those things that just never gets old:) And of all the many reasons why you should dress well, making yourself happy is the most important. Dress for yourself, not for others.
15) Because You Deserve To Look Beautiful:)
Why should you save dressing up for special occasions? You deserve to look great every day of the year. Don’t save all of your favorite outfits for a few occasions. Treat every day equally even of you aren’t going anywhere that day:)
So those are my reasons:) What are yours? Do you agree that dressing up every day is a positive thing? I would love to hear you’re opinions, so leave a comment below!

It has been two months since my husband passed away. Everyday I get dressed and put on makeup. I feel like I am not slipping away into some deep dark whole, I can’t get out of. Wished I had done it more when he was alive. Everyone needs to feel good about themselves.

I was toying with my next Fashion Fun Friday blog – which admittedly, I’ve left slide – and was thinking about a previous post I wrote about how clothes play an important part in the first impression we make. I came across this wonderful post from That Chic Fashion Blog a while back and always intended on reblogging it as it said what I wanted to say… but better. Enjoy!

I totally agree with this post! I always find it a bit depressing when people wear frumpy, boring clothes – and I feel a bit guilty for feeling that way. But for me, it takes as much time to pull on a pair of tatty jeans as it does to pull on a nice dress. People should have pride in their appearance!

Exactly! I like the point you made about it taking the same amount of time to dress up than to put no effort at all:) thanks for reading!

After I had my daughter, I used to go out with some other new mums (which I hated but felt I should!) and they all used to say how great it was that I’d put on a skirt or a dress or whatever. But it took me the same time to get dressed as them – only they all lived in jeans and baggy tops! Used to drive me mad 😀

Love this post! Although I tend to dress nicer when I go out, there are still days when I feel like just throwing on a random T-shirt and jeans. This post would defs make me think twice about going out before making sure that I look pleasant! 😉

Great post! I agree- when did actual outfits get shunted aside for running shorts and yoga pants? I wear those at home when I want to relax, but when you’re out in the world real clothes just FEEL better!

Putting in the effort to look somewhat decent for school at like 6 in the morning used to be a chore, but this made me remember why I love fashion in the first place.
Also, now that joggers and “dressier” sweatpants are in, it makes it easier to dress comfortable and look nice at the same time (:
TL;DR : Great post haha

Never heard of the cost per wear rule until today… Great post! Idk if I can “dress up” every day but I have purchased a few new pieces over the summer and I plan to definitely put more effort into my outfits this coming school year.

(not to say you don’t need those basic cotton tees, but to incorporate a mixture of comfort and casual with dressier (but still comfy) )

I think it’s so much easier to “dress up” when you whittle down your basic wardrobe pieces to pieces that are a little fancier than your basic cotton tee. For me when I stopped purchasing basic cotton tops and jeans and started to incorporate some fancier tops, it got easier to look polished, even though I didn’t necessarily spend the extra time to look it.
